Cabinet card was found in Jefferson City, MO. The photo is in good condition with a little wearing around the edges; the bottom left corner is bent. The photo was taken at Clark Photography in Streator, Illinois. The photo dates to the 1880’s and pictures a young lady in her late teens to early twenties. The back of the card is labeled in ink “Ida Bronson”.

A search of the 1880 census includes an Ida Bronson, age 16, living in Streator, LaSalle Co., Illinois. Her parents are William and Eliza Bronson. Also living with the family are Ida’s siblings Frank, George and Mary. In the 1870 census from Streator, Illinois the same family is also listed. The 1870 census does have an additional family member named Catherine Tulwiter or Fulwiter aged seventy-six, born in Pennsylvania. Ida’s mother Eliza also reports being born in Pennsylvania. It is probable Catherine is the mother of Eliza, grandmother of the Bronson children. Illinois marriage lists an Ida Bronson marring a Barney O’Neil Jr., March 4th of 1892 in LaSalle County, Illinois. There are several Barney O’Neil’s to choose from in the Streator, LaSalle Co., Illinois area. The Ida Bronson marriage to Barney may be the correct for this young lady, it may not be. However, the 1900 census lists an Ida O’Neil as a widow. The place is correct: Streator, LaSalle County, Illinois, the age is correct and the birth place of parents is reversed but the correct states. Without further research I can not claim the 1900 Ida Bronson O’Neil to be the same person in the Ida Bronson photo, but it does seem so. Ida then falls off the radar, I can not seem to find this gal anywhere after the 1900 census. Hopefully there are direct family members who can shed some light on Ida and become reunited with this lost heirloom.
