Little Freddie King
Cabinet card photo was found in Sedalia, Missouri and is in good condition. There is some fading, but the details of the photo are still clear. The style of the card dates the photo to 1890-1905 time period. Photograph was made at J.F. Walker in Joplin, Missouri. The back of the photo is labeled “Little Fredie J. King” In the same hand writing on the bottom of the photo is labeled “Miss Lizzie King”. My interpretation is the subject of the photo is Freddie and the portrait was given to Miss King.
The 1900 census from Joplin, Missouri includes a Fred King, age six living with his parents Lula and Will King, his parents report being married in 1893. A search of the Missouri marriages lists a William E. King and Louisa Holmes marring in Joplin on January 11, 1893. The 1920 census finds Freddie and his mother Lulu living in Los Angels, California. Lulu is listed as widow and her last name is given as Stoehr. William King must have died, Lulu remarried a Stoehr and then he died. The 1930 census from Los Angeles list Freddie living with his wife Viola and his mother Lulu Stoehr. Place of birth for Freddie is given as Arkansas. The California death index list Fred J. King born March 29, 1894 in Arkansas and died Sept 18, 1960 in Los Angeles, California. Mother’s maiden name is listed as Holmes.
